Book Blurb (Mind Game by Devika Das)
The Mind Game by Devika Das tells us that crests and troughs, ups and downs, joys and sorrows are a part of everyone’s lives. While many choose to simply succumb to bad times, the winner is the one who remains strong, successfully wades off negativity and rises, unbound. All of us, at some point in time, have experienced situations involving emotional outbursts where we have, albeit unknowingly, hurt others or even our own self and have only ended up regretting our actions. Wouldn’t it be great if we could somehow become mindful of our current emotional state and maintain equilibrium in our personal and professional lives? Moreover, mindfulness helps us realise what we really want from life. It helps us to first think, then act and not vice-versa. The Mind Game is a self-improvement guide that talks about how to manage emotions wisely and lead a powerful, but stress-free life.
The book is divided into six sections, which are further divided into various chapters of shorter lengths. The six sections are-
Section A- Mastering your emotions.
B- Simple Living… High Thinking
C- Analyzing People
D- Secret of True Happiness
E- Manage Your Anger Creatively
F- A Happy Workplace- The Secret of a Long, Successful Career.
As you can guess from the chapter names, the book is an amalgam of various elements that altogether reports to the effective working of the brain.
The author Devika Das, has used various examples and illustrations to explain her points in the book, which contributes to the simplicity of the book. This non-fiction self-help work of Devika Das is a commendable collaboration of daily life routine tips that we can use to improve the quality of our daily work as well as our personal emotions.
Another fruitful tactic Devika Das has used is to enlist all her views in points. However, this has made the things clear and easy to grasp for readers. Just consider the simplicity and effectiveness of her writing style, by a random prose from her book. Here’s one for illustration (I’m just writing subheadings and not their respective explanation for not spoiling) –
“Listed below are some important factors to be kept in mind when you are meeting someone for the first time:
- Be Punctual
- Be Yourself
- Dress Appropriately
- Groom Yourself Properly
- Sport a Smiling Face
- Small Conversations
- Positive Attitude
- Courtesy and Attention” (Page 58)
The language is easy to connect and the chapters are easy to follow.
Like, Who will cry when you die? by Robin Sharma, and When I Fell in Love with Life by Geetha Paniker, this one’s better be intaken as a couple of pages a day. This book is for everyone. The book cover and the title are meaningful and attractive.
Though the editing is up to the mark, there’s a tiny forgivable typo in the facebook link given in the book on the last page.
Overall, an effective and wonderful work by Devika Das. I’d be waiting for more from her.
